Whether you are new to Harbour or completing your program, be encouraged
that you are exiting the Valley of the Shadow of Debt. Before that monthly
payment becomes available again, we would like to suggest some firm guidelines
for No Return!
1. Earn all you can.
Rise to the level of your giftedness.
- Do a talent and career inventory. Are you underemployed?
- Are you passionate about your work?
- Locate the wealth! Expand your capacity to acquire income.
Are there courses you have always wanted
to take but could not afford?
Are you willing to take on more work responsibility
“for a season”?
2. Spend less than you earn.
Establish a disciplined lifestyle.
“How little (not how much) can you
spend and be content?”
- Track your current spending as detailed as possible.
- Avoid carrying cash, i.e. Liquid Money
- Keep accurate records of expenses: the Real World
- Develop/revise your spending plan.
Work with annual and monthly figures
Setup envelopes for regular and occasional
accounts
Evaluate progress regularly and adjust accordingly
Track debt separately as secured and unsecured.
3. Use excess to eliminate debt.
Re-Set your affections and desires. Every
dollar on purpose!
- Be faithful to the debts you currently have.
- Pay extra every month until P-I-F !
- Roll-up payments for paid accounts until all are paid; even vehicles,
mortgage.
- Identify spending trend
Newer is not always better.
Be selective in spending: Plan to shop before
deadlines. Wait for final sales
Identify the true need for spending.
Exchange expensive activities for valuable
ones.
4. Think Purchase rather than Payment when shopping.
- Pay your savings account regularly-not finance charges!
- Exchange Spending for Saving.
- Choose one no-fee credit card and use it like a checking account.
- Charge only what you can pay–in-full within 30 days. (You’ve
lost enough of your savings pay to finance charges.)
5. Plan early to combine your Harbour payments into a home mortgage loan.
- Be sure to involve us in loan decisions.
- Request letters of good standing
- Request print-outs of your consistent payment history
Most of all, remember, you have established
excellent relationships with counselors who really care about your financial
success. We have staff willing to provide expert advice on future purchases,
establishing new credit, and achieving and maintaining financial freedom.
